Photo Hunters: Shiny

Click on my beetle to see it all shiny, bright and large in a new window.

Here is a shiny beetle I found. It is a beetle, not a cockroach! I used iPhoto to enlarge it and ImageWell to make it fancy.

I have spent all morning trying to make gubbles on GIMP because they are shiny. But it didn't work. Now it is 1 PM, my grandson is coming for his summer-long visit at any moment, and I have not done anything to prepare! Thank goodness little boys don't notice dirt too much!

Thank you for stopping by. I am looking forward to everyone else's interpretation of "shiny." Have a great weekend!

  2. oooh, mmm, not keen on creepy crawlies I'm afraid, but undoubtedly a great shot!

Little boys are wonderful, they don't care about anything being ready or not. I had two myself and live in hope of having a grandchild someday!

  4. Before I got to your words, I thought, Eeeek - a cockroach! But you say it is a beetle, what sort of beetle is it, cause it sure looks like a cockroach to me.

  5. Hi everybody!
I assure you it isn't a cockroach! At Angelo's first mention of it, I rushed off to bugguide.com and asked for emergency help!

It is Species Cantharis livida (soldier beetle).

Let me tell you: it set MY mind at ease!

    Thank you for visiting.

  20. Don't be silly, I wasn't distressed! hehe :D

BTW, I was meaning to say, that if you do plan a trip to the ROM, you should check out the schedule of open exhibits on their website first, coz they've closed off parts of the crystal right now to set up the new exhibits. Of course the old parts of the museum are open. I guess it depends on what you want to see. I'm partial to the natural history exhibits, and I think the dinosaurs won't be ready until December? Anyway, if you don't already know, their website is www.rom.on.ca

Oh and back to the bug, I learned something new too. I never knew those things were called soldier beetles!

  21. The beetle is good but the phubble on your flickr is amazing. The list of instructions was something else - wow you have patience.
I'll have to look into GIMP myself, though I doubt I could ever do what you do.
    Thanks for visiting,
    Frances
