Photo Hunters: Messy Red Squirrels

I'm having a lot of fun learning about red squirrel behavior in the winter. I have blogged about them frequently this season. In these photos, which will open full size in a new window when clicked (and I do think you should take the time to do so!), you see the squirrel digging with snow flying about. The yard and woods are full of the holes the squirrels use for moving about under the snow and those that they dig locating food.

You see the tufted ears popping out of the snow frequently. More humorous is when you only see the small, bushy red tail sticking up out of the snow. We can't see them if they can't see us?

  2. I wish I could play with one of the little red squirrels. I think I could be trusted to play nicely...

  3. They are so cute! In Warsaw, NY there are a lot of black squirrels- they've crossed with the red ones and every once in a while you'll see a red squirrel with a jet black tail or vice versa. I never thought about them being messy, but I suppose they are.

  4. I love your shots of the squirrels in the snow. Works well for the theme. I've been enjoying your winter shots. I don't always comment but I have so much fun looking at the birds and squirrels and other winter shots you are taking.

  5. oh my god thos pictures are AWESOME!
I got a red one and a black one here that love to run up the wall outside my appartment. Took me a while to figure that out and till I did the sound of their claws was kinda scary. Actually I just tried to get a good shot of them last week and found it impossible. The move so fast and all I got was a blurry brown thing somewhere in the tree.

  6. I wish they would hibernate so my birds could enjoy their winter food. I have got some "mean" kitties on my Messy post.
